The Andhra Pradesh government on Tuesday claimed to have created 1,01,082 jobs for youths in the private sector under the ambitious 'Yuva Kiranalu' programme.
As per the promise made by Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy to provide one lakh jobs in the private sector by the end of December 2011, 1,01,082 jobs have been created so far," a press release from the CMO said.
Of these, 76,908 youths have been provided employment through the Employment Generation Mission (EGM) and another 14,826 through the Mission for Elimination of Poverty in Municipal Areas and the rest through other wings.
Out of the 76,908 jobs created by the EGM, 53,580 have been provided training, 20,048 have been provided direct employment and 3,280 have been provided self employment, according to the release.
The Chief Minister had earlier promised to provide 15 lakh jobs to youths in the private industry by 2014. He had also promised to hand over appointment letters to one lakh youths by the end of December last year but the programme has been deferred to the second week of this month.
Reddy has requested Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to hand over the appointment letters and is awaiting a response from the PMO, official sources said.
The Prime Minister is expected to visit Hyderabad on January 12 for the Partnership Summit and the state government wants him to attend the job mela as well, the sources added.
